Dosage should be directed by a physician. The following ranges have been used in clinical practice:

Age-related macular degeneration

400–600 IU daily

Cardiovascular disease

200 IU three times daily

Alzheimer's disease / Dementia

800–2000 IU once or twice daily

Rheumatoid arthritis

600 IU daily

Male infertility

200–600 IU daily

Premenstrual syndrome

400 IU daily

Dysmenorrhea (painful periods)

Capsules should be taken orally, preferably with a meal to aid absorption, or as directed by a physician.

Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) acts as a fat-soluble antioxidant in the body. It protects polyunsaturated fatty acids and other oxygen-sensitive substances from oxidation, thereby preserving the integrity of cell membranes. Vitamin E deficiency may manifest as irritability, edema, thrombosis, hemolytic anemia, and muscle weakness.

Diarrhea and abdominal pain may occur at doses greater than 1000 IU daily.

At high doses, Vitamin E supplements may increase the risk of bleeding, including hemorrhagic stroke. Long-term supplementation at high doses has been associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer in men.

• Hypersensitivity to Vitamin E or any component of the formulation.
• Patients with hereditary fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, or sucrose-isomaltase insufficiency.

• Use with caution in patients with Vitamin K deficiency or those receiving anticoagulant therapy, as there is an increased risk of bleeding.
• May increase the risk of thrombosis in predisposed patients, including those taking estrogens or oral contraceptives.
• Keep out of reach of children.

Pregnancy: The safety of high-dose Vitamin E supplementation during pregnancy has not been established. Use during the first trimester should be avoided.

Lactation: Whether Vitamin E is excreted in human breast milk at supplemental doses has not been documented. Use during breastfeeding should be avoided unless clearly necessary.

Doses exceeding 1000 IU daily may cause transient gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea and abdominal pain. Management is supportive. There is no specific antidote.

• May reduce the absorption of Vitamin A.
• May impair Vitamin K function.
• May potentiate the anticoagulant effect of warfarin; prothrombin time and INR should be monitored closely when used concomitantly with anticoagulants.

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct light and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
