Colmint

Colmint is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), functional dyspepsia, abdominal pain and spasm, and abdominal distension and bloating.

Adults

One capsule three times daily with a glass of water. The dose may be increased to a maximum of two capsules three times daily, or as directed by a physician.

Children (8 years and above)

One capsule three times daily with a glass of water.

Capsules should be taken 30 to 60 minutes before meals. Do not take with food or immediately after a meal.

The primary active constituent of Peppermint Oil is L-menthol, which acts as a calcium channel antagonist on smooth muscle cells lining the gastrointestinal tract. By blocking calcium influx, L-menthol causes smooth muscle relaxation, thereby reducing intestinal spasm and cramping — particularly in the large bowel and colon. Peppermint Oil also exhibits carminative, antibacterial, and mucolytic actions, helping to relieve abdominal fullness and facilitate the passage of gas.

Gastrointestinal: Heartburn, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, and perianal burning or irritation may occur.

Hypersensitivity: Skin rash or allergic reactions have been reported in sensitive individuals.

Colmint is contraindicated in patients with achlorhydria (absence of gastric acid). It is also contraindicated in infants, due to the potential risk of spasm of the tongue or respiratory arrest.

Capsules must be swallowed whole with a small amount of liquid. Do not chew or crush the capsules, as this may cause local irritation and negate the benefit of the enteric coating.
