A-Cal DX

A-Cal DX tablet is indicated for the treatment of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disease. It is also used as a calcium supplement to ensure adequate dietary intake in pregnancy and lactation, during osteogenesis and tooth formation (as an adjunct to definitive treatment), and in patients on anti-seizure medications. Additionally, it is used as a routine calcium supplement and as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure.

Calcium 500 mg + Vitamin D3 200 IU Tablet

2 tablets daily, or 1 tablet twice daily. Best taken with or just after a meal to improve absorption.

A-Cal DX is a combination of Calcium Carbonate and Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol). Calcium is essential for many normal body functions, most importantly bone formation and maintenance. Vitamin D3 promotes the absorption and reabsorption of calcium, and also directly stimulates bone formation. Clinical studies have demonstrated that the combined use of Calcium and Vitamin D3 supports bone growth and helps prevent osteoporosis and bone fractures.

A-Cal DX is generally well tolerated. However, if any of the following occur, inform a physician:

• Nausea or vomiting
• Stomach cramps
• Dry mouth
• Increased thirst
• Increased urination
• Constipation may also occur.

A-Cal DX is contraindicated in patients with

• Hypercalcaemia (elevated blood calcium)
• Hyperthyroidism
• Renal calculi or nephrolithiasis (kidney stones)
• Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome

Patients with pre-existing heart disease or kidney disease should take this medication with caution and under medical supervision.

Renal Impairment

This product should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment. In patients with mild to moderate renal impairment, Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) may not be metabolised normally; blood calcium and phosphate levels should be monitored. A physician may recommend an alternative form of Vitamin D in cases of significant renal insufficiency.

Elderly

Elderly patients are a primary target population for calcium and Vitamin D3 supplementation, particularly for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency. Dosing should follow physician guidance based on individual dietary intake and clinical need.

This combination should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only as directed by a physician.

Symptoms of overdose may include

• Nausea and vomiting
• Severe drowsiness
• Dry mouth
• Loss of appetite
• Metallic taste
• Stomach cramps
• Diarrhoea
• Headache
• Constipation

A-Cal DX may interact with the following

• Calcium-, aluminium-, or magnesium-containing antacids and other calcium supplements
• Calcitriol and other Vitamin D3 supplements
• Digoxin
• Tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, or oxytetracycline

Store in a dry place, away from light and heat. Keep out of the reach of children.
